jenny + alex

Jenny + Alex’s wedding day was AMAZING! I just love these two. With their son Ethan they make a beautiful family. Jenny + Alex are from Calgary, and some of their closest family members travelled from Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Both Chinese and Western traditions were combined in celebration. The morning bartering was one I will never forget! The evening festivities held at the Palliser Hotel Calgary was so entertaining and no detail was missed. From the incredible lights, beautiful centre pieces, ice bar, candy buffet, slide shows + videos, chinese dragons, three dress changes, four course meal, the gorgeous wedding cake, heartfelt toasts… the evening was simply spectacular!

*Thank you Jenny + Alex for having us film your wedding journey + taking care of us throughout the day.
*Thank you Sheryl with Lynn Fletcher Weddings. You are amazing. The details were absolutely perfect.
* Thank you Melia + Jules with Lucida Photography for being incredible to work with. Your considerate ways, and hard work is a testament to your talent and beautiful images.

Geeta + Trevor

Trevor is truly Geeta’s Prince and Geeta is Trevor’s Princess. They are both unbelievably brilliant, have hearts of gold and their connection is obvious. I have so many favourite moments from their two day wedding journey. Their western dance was epic(many days spent practicing). Geeta’s dress at the rehearsal was as beautiful as her wedding dress. The heartfelt moments spent amongst family and friends who travelled from a far. Their passionate vows. The incredible scenic back drop of Lake Louise. Most important the genuine connection they share with each other.

I LOVE their story…shared from their wedding website, written below. It is a must read!

The Meeting:

We met at what might be considered to be the opposite of a romantic resort, somewhere in the Caribbean. Geeta likes to say the crowd was in the over 70 (years of age) class, and while it may not have been quite that bad it certainly wasn’t going to be confused with a singles cruise! (Geeta: Everyone at the resort was there to check off their bucket list. Seriously.)

So here we have a Manhattan girl who hates the cold so much she brought (and wore) her parka on the beach, and a guy who lives in the frozen tundra, otherwise known as Canada, with a chance meeting in a foreign land.

Geeta: The first night we met I quite enjoyed the company of Trevor’s sister and brother in law. Trevor was relatively inoffensive.

Trevor: I assumed Geeta’s travel partner (just a friend) was her significant other. “Nice people, seem fun, where’s my mojito?”

On the second night we ran into each other again, this time at the disco (which was a very generous term for this resort)! Geeta’s travel buddy, Uday, facilitated a more detailed introduction, and from there we quickly found out that we had nothing in common….but we did seem to enjoy each other’s company.

Sparks aside, having only a couple of days left at the resort, there was only time for a freezing poolside afternoon, a thumping night out at the local Latin dance club and a hammock incident (Geeta: Trevor fell out of it). We had fun, exchanged contact info and went on our separate ways.

After all, what could happen between Calgary and NYC…?

The Plunge:

After “some” discussion and a “little” trepidation it was decided that Geeta will make the daring leap and come join Trevor in Calgary…..for real…..

The girl who hates the cold more than ANYTHING makes the ultimate sacrifice and comes to Canada. (Geeta: Just for a visit!)

Trevor: After getting over the initial shock and concern about the transition, her Mom seems to find the weather aspect particularly amusing.

From this point on, we never looked back. From ice skating to dancing, snowboarding and summering in the Rocky Mountains (Geeta: Bears! I saw real bears!!!), and exploring the globe together, we have always had an amazing time together.

Geeta began learning new words like “fracking” and “10-bagger”. And on the relationship front, the opportunity to be together only solidified what we managed to eventually figure out along way, we love each other (some debate on who said it first) and want to spend the rest of our lives together.

Geeta: Trevor said it first!

Trevor: I said “some” debate? I should have said “continual” debate!

The Proposal:

Trevor made it official in Mexico, where he proposed and Geeta accepted, in May of 2011.

The transportation and logistics guy from small town Canada and the Indian/Brazilian Manhattan girl had a chance meeting under unlikely circumstances and are now looking forward to sharing a lifetime of new experiences, opportunities and memories together.

973 days…….

I was so excited to see the vision of Karly + Cody’s wedding day come to life. Absolutely no details were missed. An amazing outdoor ceremony in Drumheller on Karly’s parents farm. From Karly’s stunning Vera Wang dress, her beautiful smile, his steadfast loyalty, their personal heart felt vows, the incredible gathering of family and friends to the amazing fireworks show in the evening. The day was full of emotion and love! It was a lovely day to witness the celebration of Karly, Cody and their sweet son Cash.

Thank you Mary Swaffield with Lavish Wedding Planning + Design for always answering my, “one more question” and ensuring the perfect day!

Ashley + Mike

Ashley + Mike came all the way from Glasgow to be married in Canmore.  While they are originally from Canada, this brilliant couple is completing their Veterinary Degree’s in Scotland.  They both love the mountains.  Since Mike proposed to Ashley in the Swiss Alps, they thought it would be a perfect fit to celebrate their marriage in the Rocky Mountains with family and close friends.  Mike and his groomsmen started the day off with a ritual wedding day basketball game.  WOW these guys + girl have some incredible moves!  The weather turned out to be just perfect for their outdoor ceremony.  Mike’s groomsman, Juno award winning Tomi Swick sang an acoustic piece at the ceremony and my favourite detail was that in lieu of favours Ashley + Mike made a donation to the Calgary SPCA which was so thoughtful.  It was truly a wonderful day.

A mention and Thank you to their photographer Gabe with Perspective Eye Photography for being so wonderful to work along side and for always communicating.  Visit Gabe’s amazing images of Ashley + Mike’s wedding.  Thank you to the lovely Inspired Occasions team for the perfect details!

2 minutes

It has been so exciting working with my Sensei. She started Karate when she was six and received her first black belt in Shoyokan Karate at the age of 15. She also holds a black belt in Bushido Kan Ryu and Kickboxing.

Typically a round in Martial Art’s fighting is two minutes.

In Sensei Alyssia’s words: 2 minutes. It feels like the blink of an eye when you hit the snooze button in the morning, when you are running late for work, or purposelessly surfing the Internet. It is such a short insignificant period of time in the grand scheme of things. But for a fighter. Two minutes is an eternity. It is a game of physical and mental chess. It is the difference between willpower and weakness. It is the sum of weeks, months, or even years of tears, sweat, and blood. Two minutes is everything. And in that two minutes a fighter gives everything…

I am looking forward to sharing Sensei Alyssia’s portrait film ~ her journey to date in martial art’s ~

Chris + Renee

Renee + Chris are perfect for each other. Renee is a School Teacher and Chris a Fireman. They have a passion for traveling and are very excited to be spending their honeymoon in Thailand. Recently they took on a major home renovation all while planning their wedding and they were so calm and composed when sharing this with me. There were so many emotional and sweet moments throughout the day. Some of my favourites include, Renee reading from a precious book that her and Chris write notes to each other in(imagine reading this book ten to twenty years from now), Chris’s romantic gifts to Renee all themed around their honeymoon, homemade delivered muffins, Chris’s iconic cuff links, the fact they kissed each other after Dad’s handoff at the Catholic church(!), her students singing at the ceremony, their excellent taste and love of Malbec wine, all the speeches including Bubbles, the log cake platter that Dad personally cut down himself, the cake knife, the first dance and all the dancing afterwards, the two man band named Mahoney that had everyone up dancing without reservation, and mostly how everyone came together to celebrate a glorious day!

Thank you Renee + Chris + Family + Friends for being you:)

Much love,

Kristen + Darren * Buffalo Mountain Lodge Banff Wedding*

Kristen and Darren travelled with family and friends from Virginia to be married in Banff, the destination where their love was first revealed in 2008. Their wedding was filled with layers of emotion, beautiful textures, love and many tears of happiness. I was so excited for them that the weather which was in question since they had arrived in Banff worked in their favour and they were able to be married outdoors. It was a perfect mix of gentle wind, rain and sweet sunshine…

It is hard to describe in words the deep connection between them. It will all be apparent after viewing their highlight which I feel so honoured to share and have been a part of creating.

P.S. View more of Kristen + Darren’s wedding on Style Me Pretty Canada

The soundtrack is Walden and the Willow Tree by, The Dimes, licensed With Etiquette.

*a small glimpse*

Here’s a small glimpse of Kristen and Darren’s wedding.  I’m completely in love with the emotion of their day and will be posting their complete highlight soon.

Until then..

* The soundtrack I choose is titled, We Ran From the Rain by Drew Barefoot licensed With Etiquette. It is the perfect song to accompany their story!  Their ceremony was to be held outside and the question of the day was, “is it going to rain?”  We were all hoping with our fingers crossed that the sun would shine for Kristen and Darren who travelled all the way from Virginia to be married outdoors in the Canadian Rockies.   Thank you Callandra and her team from Cherry Tree Occasions for ensuring Kristen and Darren had the ceremony they wished for!  If you love beautiful imagery visit Orange Girl Photographs to view more of Kristen and Darren’s perfect Banff Wedding(search Buffalo Mountain Lodge)!

Perfectly sweet + upbeat x 2 = Justin + Irene

A few weeks ago we experienced our first Edmonton Wedding.  I was so excited when I first spoke with Irene and Justin as they shared they were getting married at the Alberta Art Gallery.  We had never officially met Irene and Justin in person so the plan was to meet with them Friday evening before their rehearsal.  On rehearsal day, as we made our way into Edmonton driving through crazy  traffic heading to the Art Gallery, we looked over beside us and there they were.. our first official meeting in traffic!  As we were talking (well maybe screaming) over traffic with our windows down I knew the wedding journey with them was going to be perfect!  I gave Irene a hug at the rehearsal and I remember thinking she is so sweet!  And wow can she wear a pair of heels!  During our conversations before the wedding I asked Justin and Irene to describe their wedding.  They shared that they really wanted it to be fun and  their guests to enjoy themselves.  They smiled all day, except Justin perhaps when he and his groomsmen were greeted by Irene’s bridesmaids for “the bartering” where he was asked to do some interesting things which included wearing a corset, heels, make-up and popping balloons! ++ singing and being epilated which will for sure be in the main feature!  Thank you Irene + Justin for being perfectly sweet!

Thank you to… the kind lady(wish I had asked her name) at the Alberta Art Gallery gift shop for sharing the secret heart of the Gallery!  Mary and her team with Lavish-Wedding Planning & Design for the gorgeous decor and planning ++ making sure we were taken care of!  Tony Yang from New York and his second photographer Fern Lee who were incredible to work with.  A big hug to Bruce with Sliver Moon Productions for lighting everything down to the cake perfectly!!!
